Village green works
published on 19th Oct 2020
Work will be taking place this week on the village green to replace the low level fence along Carrs Meadow.
Please use common sense and keep away from the areas where work is in progress, and encourage any unaccompanied children to do likewise.
The work involves replacing the existing fence, and extending to join up with the fence on Carr Lane. Several gaps will be left in the new fence for pedestrian access, whilst keeping vehicles out.
Escrick York Boundary
published on 15th Oct 2020
With the announcement that York is to be placed in tier 2 COVID restrictions, a few people have asked for clarification whether or not this includes Escrick.
To clarify, most of Escrick Village is in Selby District. The boundary runs between the church and the SangThai restaurant, as shown in black on the map below. York is north of the line, Selby is south of the line. Selby is not part of York.
Restrictions are defined using political boundaries, not postcodes, postal addresses or telephone dialling codes.

Escrick Parish Council update September 2020
Covid 19:
At September’s meeting the Parish Council reviewed arrangements, and agreed to keep these unaltered. The Council will continue to meet via video calls, and the playground will remain open with restrictions and an enhanced cleaning regime. Plans may change as the pandemic evolves and residents are encouraged to check the Council’s website for updates.
Highways:
Skipwith Road speeding: The Council has submitted a request to the ’95 alive’ road safety partnership requesting that they review the speeding issues on Skipwith Road. After some delay they have acknowledged the request, but are not in a position to progress at the moment due to staff shortages.
The vehicle activated sign is currently out of action, due to an electrical fault. It is due to be repaired during September under warranty.
Planning:
The application for clay extraction west of the A19 / business park was approved by North Yorkshire County Council in late July.
The application for a leisure/caravan park on the former North Selby Mine site was approved by City of York Council in August.
The application for increased in-fill at the former brickworks quarry west of the business park was approved by North Yorkshire County Council in early September.
The application for a waste sorting site at the former Stillingfleet mine site has not yet be heard by committee.
Maintenance:
The bus shelter woodwork is due to be repainted during September.
An order has been placed for an electrical supply to the fountain area, to allow the monument to be illuminated in due course.
Work on the village green fence has been delayed due to availability of contractors.

COVID-19 Selby District Council Update 17th Sept 2020
published on 17th Sep 2020
Update from Selby District Council - Thursday 17th September 2020:
To update you on the situation with Covid-19 in Selby district, as our area continues to record higher numbers of cases compared to other parts of North Yorkshire.
The Local Resilience Forum has declared a major incident, given the rise in case numbers. Of particular concern in North Yorkshire are the Selby and Scarborough districts.
In our district, there are particular concerns about community transmission in the Sherburn-in-Elmet area. We are also seeing increases amongst care home residents and staff.
This is happening against a backdrop of national problems with laboratory capacity, which means fewer Covid 19 tests are available and results are taking longer.
Working together with LRF partners, we’ve put the following in place:
- Moved into major incident response mode;
- Directed local testing facilities towards areas of greatest need;
- Stepped up support to care homes and other care services;
- Started to prepare for re-introducing restrictions to visits to care homes in the Selby district
- Paused the re-opening of social care day services;
- Worked with Safety Advisory Groups (SAGs) to develop guidance to ensure events are Covid-19 compliant and to advise the cancellation of events in areas with high levels of infection to protect lives and livelihoods;
- Worked proactively with workplace and hospitality sectors to promote Covid-19 safety measures;
- Supported schools and businesses with positive cases to manage incidents and prevent or limit the size of outbreaks.
These actions are being taken to try to avoid a further full lockdown if possible. Work continues now to prevent, contain and reduce the spread of the virus.
In addition, in the whole of the Selby district, people are asked to:
- Exercise extra vigilance in maintaining hand hygiene and social distancing
- Use face coverings when leaving home while circulating infection levels are increasing
- Avoid large groupings of over 30 people
- Events organisers to re-think any indoor or outdoor events that involve more than 30 people;
- Take extra care when leaving home if you have an underlying health condition or have been advised to shield
Thank you for your continued help as we work together to control the virus.
