Main St War Memorial
published on 18th Jan 2016
Escrick residents are advised that the current owners of Rudding House, 36 Main Street, Escrick are claiming ownership to the site of the bus shelter/war memorial which was erected circa 1946 by public subscription upon land owned by the Forbes Adam family. The shelter contains an inscription: "This shelter was erected by the inhabitants of the Parish of Escrick as a memorial to those who served their country during the War 1939-45".
36 Main Street have stated that
"we are currently considering whether leaving the bus shelter on this site would be a satisfactory conclusion for all parties or whether perhaps the removal or relocation of the structure would be preferable in order to prevent any future dispute. We would welcome your thoughts on this matter and will seek to work to work with you."
The parish council have maintained and insured this building for 60 years. It recognises the significance of the war memorial to the village and will be robustly defending the ownership of the war memorial on behalf of the village.
The parish council will keep the village informed of progress.
Liz Casling, Chair Escrick Parish council.
Escrick Youth Club
published on 13th Jan 2016
After a successful meeting prior to Christmas, we are hoping to start the youth club in February 2016 at Escrick Club. We are looking for some more volunteers. It will be available for Year 4 children upwards.
This is an appeal for volunteers - older teens doing their Duke of Edinburgh awards perhaps or parents? (ideally not if your child is hoping to attend the youth club, apparently it's not cool to be at Youth club with your mum or dad!!)
Those interested should contact:
Charlotte Keable, Youth Development Worker, Office: 01845 522145 Mobile:07825659425 Web: www.nyy.org.uk
Any further questions regarding this can be emailed to Liz Casling on liz.casling123@btinternet.com
Escrick Tea Shop
published on 13th Jan 2016
The Escrick Tea Shop launches on Wednesday 20th January - and will be held weekly in Escrick & Deighton Club from 2pm - 4pm.
It is an opportunity for everyone to come along, to enjoy tea/coffee and home-made cake at a nominal price. All ages very welcome. Any surplus funds will be ploughed back into enhancing and developing community activities in Escrick.
It will be a friendly Tea shop atmosphere, a place to meet people and chat. As we move forward we hope that other activities can be added and the tea shop will be the platform for other services and events .... Maybe a book swap/library, a chance for a game of cards or scrabble, a regular visit from a local butcher - the possibilities are endless.
If you would like to be involved in setting up or helping to run this wonderful community venture please contact Caroline by email:rc25.escrick@gmail.com or phone 720703.
