Improving Planning Services Across North Yorkshire
North Yorkshire Council is delivering a major improvement to its Planning Service by bringing together all planning systems into a single, unified platform.
This project will create one set of consistent processes across all areas of planning. By working in a more streamlined and coordinated way, we aim to deliver a more efficient and effective service for residents, businesses and stakeholders.
What this means for you
The changes will help us:
- Process planning applications more efficiently
- Provide clearer and more consistent information
- Deliver a more reliable and responsive customer experience across the county
Changes to how applications are advertised
As part of this work, some areas will see changes to how planning applications are publicised.
In certain cases, neighbour notification letters will no longer be issued. Instead, applications will be advertised through:
- Site notices, placed near the application location where appropriate
- Online publication via the Council’s Public Access system
Stay informed about local applications
We strongly encourage residents to sign up for development alerts through Public Access. This free service allows you to receive notifications about planning applications in your area or for locations that interest you.
Signing up ensures you continue to be informed about developments that may affect you, even where neighbour letters are no longer sent.

In August, all Selby cases were loaded into the North Yorkshire Public Access site and this will be the site that will hold all information going forward. The latest information on where you can view cases will be published on our website –
