Community Governance Review Consultation 2025/26
The stage 1 consultation for the 2025/26 Community Governance Review (CGR) is current live
North Yorkshire Council are consulting residents about the future governance of Escrick Parish Council. Due to a lack of residents willing to become parish councillors, the parish is currently holding several vacant seats. North Yorkshire Council is undertaking a community governance review to ensure that parish level governance arrangements are operating as effectively as possible.A request has been received from Escrick Parish Council to reduce the number of councillor seats from 11 to nine as the parish is currently several vacancies. As of June 2025, 11 councillor seats represent 764 electors. This will enable the council to work more effectively. The Parish Council has struggled to fill all the seats for many years and despite advertising for new volunteers only a small number of residents have come forward. At the last election only 5 members were elected. This meant that the Parish Council did not meet the quorate requirements to maintain it's general power of competence allowing expenditure in areas that affect parishioners. One such example is being unable to provide lighting at the bus stop on the A19/Sang Thai (as it is classed as outside the parish) despite the majority of users at that stop residing in Escrick. You are invited to have your say as part of this consultation. The closing date for the survey is 22 December 2025.
